Snapchat: Identity Thief?

In the beginning, there was MySpace, and then there was Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Now we have Snapchat.

Snapchat is a great social media app that sends 10 second or less videos or pictures to all of your friends.

At first, media was just shared in singular messages, and then they released ‘stories’ that would stay posted for 24 hours before disappearing forever.

Last year, they unveiled ‘filters’ which could change the entire look of the image in a fraction of a second, and users loved the app more than ever.

Now Snapchat is trying to one-up themselves and make their app better and better by taking other app’s ideas.

Snapchat’s newest update, “Chat 2.0” seems a bit familiar to me. There’s video chat, savable messages, and one-way calling. These ideas seem familiar because they are a part of all the other huge social media sites.

Skype is one of the biggest apps for video chatting because of its simplicity. You can easily open up a call wherever you are, and now you’ll be able to do the same with Snapchat.

Facebook is famous for their wide range of chat options, from cute stickers to a full-blown game of emoji basketball. Now on Snapchat, users are able to send huge blocks of saveable text and believe it or not, stickers called “Cheeky Pop Fun.”

Another thing that Facebook began using is ‘voice calling.’ You can select to call any of your friends as if you were using a regular phone, and now, so can Snapchat.

This update might not seem like a big deal to some because of the other original features that Snapchat offers. However, in a competitive market for being the number one social app, Snapchat has to come up with their own exclusive content.

What do you think about Snapchat’s latest update, and what should they improve on in the future?
